A tree for your booking
Respect for our planet’s limited resources and climate-friendly mobility are two major challenges of the 21st Century. We are therefore delighted to cooperate with the Austrian Federal Forest Authority on the “tree for your booking” project; a new tree planted for each hiking tour booked through us in the Salzkammergut region! Along with your travel documents, you will receive a photo of “your” tree, which you will even have the chance to visit during your trip. |

Day 2: Panoramic hike on mount Zwölferhorn
Distance 5.2 km |Altitude difference: 451 m
After a leisurely breakfast, start the day by driving along the toll road to the Illingerbergalm (IMPORTANT: you will need coins for the toll). The hike over the Pillsteinhöhe to the Zwölferhorn and back offers breathtaking views. Reward yourself with a stop at the hut for a little snack.
More hiking options are also available and info will be provided in your route notes.
Additional activity idea: Summer Tobogganing in Strobl (ticket not included):
If you are not too exhausted after the hike, we recommend a ride on the summer toboggan run.
Day 3: Explore Lake Wolfgangsee by Boat
From the boat station Gschwendt you start the day with a boat trip to St. Gilgen, Strobl or St. Wolfgang. With your day ticket you can get off once at each station.
We recommend a walk through the bustling town of St. Wolfgang, with attractions such as the pilgrimage church and the famous “White Horse Inn”. Enjoy a coffee and cake in the centre of the town in the café “Kaffeewerkstatt”.
Day 4: Grünberg Treetop Walk
Today´s excursion takes you to Grünberg at Lake Traunsee. You will take the cable car up to the Salzkammergut treetop path. Here, you will enjoy unique perspectives high above the forest floor, with a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Traunsee and the village of Gmunden.
Additional activity idea: Cumberland Wildpark Grünau (ticket not included)
On a relaxing hike following a stream through woods and meadows, you will explore the natural habitat of the animals. The Grünau Zoo is home to about 500 animals. In the beginning, only native wildlife lived in the park. Over time, more animals from other continents were added, including animal species that now also live wild in Austria, such as raccoons and fallow deer.
Day 5: Cycling tour from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt
Distance: Up to a maximum of 56 km but can easily be shortened to your preferred distance.
Today you drive to Bad Ischl by car and pick up your rental bikes at the office of Salzkammergut Touristik. We recommend a bike tour to the famous UNESCO World Heritage town of Hallstatt. You follow the river Traun via Laufen to Bad Goisern. You will soon reach the deep blue Lake Hallstättersee. From Steeg you cycle along the traffic-free Ostuferradweg cycle path around Lake Hallstättersee, past the village of Obertraun and on to Hallstatt. The Ostuferradweg is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in the Salzkammergut and lies right on the shores of Lake Hallstatt. One of the special features of this trail is the exciting suspension bridge over one of the deepest parts of Lake Hallstatt. Enjoy a walk through the picture-postcard village of Hallstatt before returning to Bad Ischl.
There are train stations along the cycling path in Lauffen, Bad Goisern, Steeg-Gosau, Obersee, Hallstatt and Obertraun. To shorten the route, you can either cycle to Hallstatt and return by train to Bad Ischl (28 km) or take the train from one of the other stations to make a cycling distance that is more to your liking.
Day 6: Hiking with llamas in Bad Ischl
Enjoy the natural surroundings of the Salzkammergut on a lovely hike with a llama. Depending on the weather and endurance, the walks with the animals can be planned individually.
Duration approx. 4 hours.
Alternative: Hiking with a husky in Ebensee
The husky hike is in the beautiful landscape of the inner Salzkammergut.
Walking time approx. 2 hours (8-12 km).
At the end there is a cosy get-together at the ranch with a little refreshment.
Duration: Total approx. 4 hours
Day 7: Salzburg Salt Mine
An exciting journey of discovery deep in the Dürrnberg mountain awaits you, where the miners brought the “white gold” to light over 2,500 years ago. The show mine in the Salzburger Land is the oldest in the world.
The Celtic village of SALINA is located directly next to the Salzwelten. The village takes you back to the world of 2600 years ago where you will get to know the daily life of the Celts. In the salt factory you can experience the production of salt up close.
Additional activity idea: Sightseeing in Salzburg
Visit Mozart’s birthplace and walk in the footsteps of the famous composer around the streets of this fairy-tale medieval city. Marvel at the spectacular Hohensalzburg Fortress, perched high above the city on the Festungsberg hill.
Day 8: Departure
Your holiday comes to an end after breakfast this morning, unless you have booked any additional services with us.
